- 5-Chloropicolinic Acid
- 5-Chloro-2-pyridinecarboxylic acid
5-Chloro-pyridine-2-carboxylic acid (5CPCA) is a metabolite of picolinic acid that is found in the urine of individuals who have been chronically exposed to picolinic acid. 5CPCA is also produced by bacteria and has been shown to be toxic at high doses. 5CPCA inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to chloride ion and inhibiting bacterial respiration, which leads to cell death. The metabolic pathway for 5CPCA begins with hydrolysis followed by oxidation and then reduction, leading to the production of various products, including nitro compounds. These nitro compounds are potentially carcinogenic.
