- 2-(Cyanomethyl)benzoic acid
2-(Cyanomethyl)benzoic acid is an isomer of benzonitrile, which has a sulfur substituent. It is also known as 2-cyanomethylbenzoic acid, and it has been classified as an aromatic compound. The physicochemical properties of 2-(Cyanomethyl)benzoic acid are similar to those of benzyl alcohol, but the transition state is different because the nitrile group in this compound is electron-withdrawing. In addition to carboxylic acids and amines, 2-(Cyanomethyl)benzoic acid reacts with pyridinium ions to form a pyridinium salt. The electronic spectra in the region between 300-500 nm show that there are no strong absorptions in this region for the molecule.
