Description:

2-Chloro-N-(2-hydroxyphenyl)acetamide is a colorimetric reagent for the detection of phenols. The method is based on the formation of an imine between 2-chloro-N-(2-hydroxyphenyl)acetamide and a phenolic compound, which leads to a change in the color of the solution from yellow to orange. This reaction can be used to detect and quantify aldehydes, including chloral hydrate and acetaldehyde.
