Description:

2-(Chloromethyl)-1,3-benzothiazole is a hydroxylated benzothiazole compound that has been shown to have antifungal activity against yeast cells in vitro. These results were supported by the fact that 2-(chloromethyl)-1,3-benzothiazole was able to inhibit the growth of Penicillium chrysogenum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This molecule also showed antifungal effects against Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans. 2-(Chloromethyl)-1,3-benzothiazole has also been shown to be an effective agent for the treatment of bacterial infections such as E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The use of this compound as an antimicrobial agent is limited due to its high toxicity in mammals.
