Description

6-Chloroquinoline-2-carbaldehyde is a tetracyclic heterocycle that has been used to synthesise thiosemicarbazones. The antibacterial activity of this compound has been evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It was found that 6-chloroquinoline-2-carbaldehyde inhibited bacterial growth by interfering with the function of bacterial DNA gyrase, which is an enzyme involved in maintaining the integrity of bacterial DNA. This antibiotic may also be useful for treating MRSA infections.
