Crotonylidene diurea (CDU) is a chemical compound that is used as an agrochemical. It is synthesized by reacting crotonyl chloride with copper chloride in the presence of organic solvent and animal tissue. CDU has synergistic effects when combined with other substances, such as chlorinated insecticides or pyrazole derivatives, and can be used to slow-release fertilizers. The synthesis of CDU can be done at temperatures up to 100°C. It also reacts with magnesium oxide to produce magnesium chloride and nitrogen gas.
