2-Chloro-8-cyclopentyl-5-methyl-8H-pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidin-7-one is an industrial chemical that has been used as a potent inhibitor of cyclin dependent kinases. It is one of the first compounds to be identified with this property. 2CPMPY has shown activity against both cyclin D and CDK4, which are essential for mitosis. The compound is synthesized by the intramolecular cyclization of crotonic acid with 2-(chloromethyl)oxirane. This can be done in two ways: by thermal or photochemical means.
