3-Chloro-5-methoxyphenol is a petrochemical that is used as an intermediate in the production of dyes. It has been shown to have strong antibacterial activity against protozoan Tetrahymena and ciliate Paramecium. 3-Chloro-5-methoxyphenol is also effective against bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. The regression analysis shows that the molecular descriptors are correlated with linear regression coefficients, which can be interpreted as a measure of their effect on the properties of interest. The haloalkyl group increases hydrophobicity due to its high electron density, but it also increases the likelihood of substitution reactions with other reactants. This chemical is not very soluble in water, so it is usually used for extraction by refluxing or distillation.
