Description

Cobalt hexamine chloride (CMC) is a compound that contains cobalt and hexamine. It can be used as an alternative to potassium dichromate in the preparation of samples for elemental analysis by atomic absorption spectroscopy. CMC is used as a catalyst in organic reactions, such as the Friedel-Crafts acylation and alkylation reactions. CMC has been shown to induce liver lesions in rats, which may be due to its ability to bind with chloride ions. This compound also has transport properties that depend on pH and exhibits linear calibration curves for ph values from 4-10. The mechanism of CMC's catalytic activity is not well understood but it may involve hydrogen bonding interactions or steric interactions with the substrate molecule.
