Product Information

Name:
3-Chloro-2-nitrophenol
Synonyms:
  • 3-Chlor-2-nitrobenzolol
  • Phenol, 3-Chloro-2-Nitro-
Description:

3-Chloro-2-nitrophenol is a p-hydroxybenzoic acid derivative that is used for the synthesis of other organic compounds. It has been shown to inhibit the demethylation of pyridoxine hydrochloride, an important metabolic process in mammals. The inhibitory effect of 3-chloro-2-nitrophenol on this metabolic pathway is also seen when it inhibits the formation of reaction products from fatty acids and low energy nitro compounds. 3-Chloro-2-nitrophenol has been shown to be orally effective against some bacteria, such as staphylococcus and Streptococcus species, but not against others, such as Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli.
