Cyclopent-1-enecarbaldehyde is an organic solvent that is a colorless liquid at room temperature. It is a weak acid with a pKa of 3.4 and has the ability to dissolve many organic substances. Cyclopent-1-enecarbaldehyde can be used as an additive in paints, varnishes, and lacquers to promote adhesion and reduce brittleness.
In addition to its use as an additive, cyclopent-1-enecarbaldehyde is also used as a reagent in organic synthesis. This compound can be produced by the organocatalytic oxidation of cyclohexanol using sodium periodate in acetic acid followed by reaction with acetate extract or ammonium nitrate. Cyclopent-1-enecarbaldehyde can also be synthesized from vinyl alcohol and chlorine gas by heating the mixture under pressure in an autoclave. Cyclopent-1-enecarbaldehyde has two
