Product Information
2-(4-Chloro-2-hydroxyphenoxy)acetic acid (2CPA) is a molecule that is involved in the metabolic pathway of chlorine. It is also known as chlorophenoxyacetic acid. 2CPA can be found in many different forms, including the cis and trans isomers. The cis form has been shown to be more effective in inhibiting bacterial growth than the trans form. 2CPA has been used as a pesticide for plants and animals, although it is not very effective against insects. The mechanism of action for 2CPA is similar to other pesticides: it inhibits the metabolism of cells by binding to enzymes that are necessary for normal cell function, such as the enzyme cholinesterase. This causes rapid death of plants and animals exposed to this chemical.
