Description

1-(2-Chloroethyl)pyrrolidine hydrochloride (CAP) is a five-membered heterocyclic compound that has been shown to have antibacterial activity against staphylococcus. CAP is a piperidine derivative and can be synthesized from the reaction of 2-chloroethyl chloride and dimethylformamide. CAP inhibits the growth of pathogenic fungi by binding to their cell walls, preventing cell division and inhibiting protein synthesis. The drug has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. CAP is orally active but must be optimized for cereus infection.
