2,2',2'',2'''-(Cyclohexane-1,2-diylbis(azanetriyl))tetraacetic acid (CDTA) is a chelating agent that binds to metal ions such as Cu2+, Fe3+, and Ca2+. CDTA has been used in the production of polymers and as a reagent in analytical methods. CDTA is also used to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to free iron ions, which are essential for bacterial growth. This inhibition of free iron ions prevents bacterial growth and survival. CDTA has been shown to be effective against clostridium when used in a biological sample or an analytical method.
