It is synthesized from 2-chloronicotinic acid and amide by nucleophilic substitution. 4-Chloronicotinamide has low activity against oxazoles and pyridine but high activity against nucleophiles such as DNA, RNA, and proteins. This compound was labeled with 14C to study its biosynthesis in bacteria.
