Product Information
3-Chloro-4H-1,2,4-triazole is a heterocyclic organic compound that can be produced by the photolysis of methanol. It is also produced in the reaction of isomeric 3-chloro-4H-1,2,4-triazoles with sodium methoxide in methanol. This compound forms an equilibrium mixture of two isomers: 3-chloro-4H-[1,2,3]triazole and 3-chloro-[1,2,4]triazole. The former has a nitrogen atom on a carbon atom adjacent to a double bond while the latter has it on a carbon atom adjacent to a triple bond. The herbicidal activity of this compound may be due to its ability to inhibit photosynthesis and cause cell death by inhibiting protein synthesis through inhibition of RNA synthesis and DNA replication.
