2-(Chloromethyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolane is a reactive chemical intermediate that is used in the preparation of glycols. It is prepared by reacting boron trichloride with methanol. The 2-(chloromethyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolane can be used as an emulsifier or co-solvent in the preparation of acrylic acid and other glycols. 2-(Chloromethyl)-4,4,5,5-tetramethyl-1,3,2-dioxaborolane has been shown to have low toxicity to humans and ecological effects.
