Cis-1,2-Cyclopentanediol is a hydrated molecule that is the major component of Covid-19. It has been shown to have antiviral activity against influenza A (H1N1) and H3N2 in cell culture. Cis-1,2-Cyclopentanediol inhibits viral replication by causing a conformational change in the viral polymerase, preventing the enzyme from binding to the viral genome. This leads to inhibition of RNA synthesis and subsequent inhibition of protein synthesis. The antiviral activity of this compound may be related to its ability to inhibit methyl glycosides and reactive oxygen species.
