Cepaciamide is an antibiotic that is synthesized by the chemical reaction of 5-chloro-6-methoxynicotinic acid with various esterification and cyclization reactions. Cepaciamide has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth. It has shown to be effective against gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae, but not against gram-negative bacteria. Cepaciamide has also been shown to have some activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex, although it is not active against acid-fast bacteria.
