6-Chloro-5-ethyluracil is a deuterium isotope analog of thymine. It has been shown to have anti-hepatitis effects by inhibiting the replication of hepatitis virus in the presence of radiation. This drug also inhibits the synthesis of DNA, RNA and protein. 6-Chloro-5-ethyluracil is a singlet oxygen quencher that can be used for photochemical reactions and may be useful as an anti-infective agent against bacteria such as Subtilis.
