4-Chloro-N-hydroxybenzamide is a hydroxamic acid that is used in supramolecular chemistry. 4-Chloro-N-hydroxybenzamide reacts with amines to form a redox potential and an acid complex, which can be protonated. This reaction product has been shown to have in vitro cytotoxic activity against bladder cancer cells and in vivo antitumor activity against cisplatin-resistant bladder cancer cells. The nmr spectra of 4-chloro-N-hydroxybenzamide showed the presence of two protonated molecules, one at the para position and one at the ortho position on the benzene ring. These positions are consistent with its structure as a hydroxamic acid.
