Description

2-Chloromethylpyridine is a coordination compound that is used as a wastewater treatment agent. It forms stable complexes with metal ions and organic compounds, which can be removed from the water. 2-Chloromethylpyridine reacts with sodium carbonate to form sodium chloride and ammonia, which can then be removed by boiling or by adding inorganic acid. The fluorescence probe of 2-chloromethylpyridine can be used to measure the redox potentials of the solution. This compound has nitrogen atoms and hydroxyl groups that are involved in hydrogen bonding interactions. The intramolecular hydrogen bonds between the hydroxyl group and histidine are responsible for stabilizing this compound's structure.
