Description:

4-Cyano-5-imidazolecarboxamide is an antimicrobial agent that belongs to the group of ribofuranosyl compounds. It inhibits the synthesis of syncytial virus and is active against some strains of influenza virus, such as influenza A and B. This drug also has inhibitory effects on cellular and animal viruses, such as herpes simplex virus, vaccinia virus, and adenovirus. 4-Cyano-5-imidazolecarboxamide has been used in assays to measure the effectiveness of a newly developed vaccine against hepatitis B. The effective dose for this drug is not known, but it has been shown to be toxic in animals at high doses.
