Description:

4-Chloro-2-picoline is a nitrate that is used in the preparation of potassium permanganate. It can be prepared by hydrolysis of picric acid with hydrochloric acid and potassium permanganate in an organic solvent. This chemical has been found to be a pollutant and can be found in some industrial operations such as the production of plastics, paints, dyes, and pesticides. 4-Chloro-2-picoline is also used as a catalyst for the oxidation of alcohols and thiols to their corresponding carboxylic acids and sulfides respectively.
