8-Chloro-5-methylquinoline (8C8MQ) is a heteroaryl compound that can be used for dehalogenation. 8C8MQ has been shown to convert bromobenzene to the corresponding benzene derivative in a coupling reaction with lithium chloride. It is also an important chemical intermediate for the synthesis of other heteroaryl compounds. 8C8MQ can be synthesized by reacting methyl iodide and 8-chloroquinoline in the presence of lithium and dimethylformamide as solvent. The reaction can be monitored by spectroscopy, which will show that the product is a dimer.
