2-Chloro-5-nitropyrimidin-4-amine is an active compound that inhibits cancer cell growth. It is created by a chemical reaction between 2,4,5-trichloropyrimidine and nitric acid. The compound has been shown to be effective against thyroid cancer cells in vitro. This compound is synthesized by the cross coupling of an aryl halide with an amine, which can be done using a Suzuki or Sonogashira coupling. The yield of this synthesis depends on the structural modification of the molecule and the amount of activated carbon used. Tests have shown that 2-chloro-5-nitropyrimidin-4-amine inhibits cancer cell proliferation and tumor growth in vivo.
