Description:

2-Chloro-6-hydroxybenzoic acid (2C6HBA) is a colorless, crystalline, water-soluble solid. It is used in the synthesis of medicines and as a reducing agent in organic chemistry. 2C6HBA is an intermediate for the production of hydrochloric acid, which can be dechlorinated with morpholine to form 2,6-dichlorobenzoic acid. This reaction also produces functional groups such as glycol ethers and decarboxylated chlorides. The chloride atoms on 2C6HBA are capable of reacting with amines to form amides and demethylation reactions with alcohols produce 2,6-dihydroxybenzoic acid. 2C6HBA can biodegrade in soil or water due to its chemical properties and has been found to be non-toxic to animals.
