Description

5-Cyano-1-benzofuran-2-ylboronic acid is an antibacterial agent that can be used to treat bacterial infections. One of the mechanisms by which this drug prevents bacterial growth is by binding to the enzyme Dihydrofolate reductase, which plays a role in DNA synthesis and replication. The compound also has a spectrum of activity against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. It is active against Bacillus anthracis, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Yersinia pestis, Enterobacter cloacae, Salmonella typhi and Shigella dysenteriae. This agent is also capable of inhibiting the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex.
