3-Chlorophenyl-3-propanoic acid is an organic compound that is used in the synthesis of a variety of drugs, including analgesics and antibacterials. It is synthesized by reacting chlorides with alcohols. 3-Chlorophenyl-3-propanoic acid acts as a surfactant, which reduces surface tension between two liquids or between a liquid and a solid. It can also be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other drugs. 3-Chlorophenyl-3-propanoic acid has been shown to have antibacterial properties mediated by its ability to inhibit the enzymes responsible for bacterial fatty acid synthesis.
