Product Information
- pyridine, 2-chloro-4,6-dimethoxy-
2-Chloro-4,6-dimethoxypyridine is a reactive intermediate in the synthesis of 5-deazariboflavin. It is synthesised from 2,4-dichloropyridine and formaldehyde in the presence of sodium acetate and hydrochloric acid. The reaction proceeds with regioselectivity for the para position of the pyridine ring. Irradiation of 2-chloro-4,6-dimethoxypyridine leads to the formation of a covalent bond with a flavin mononucleotide residue. This reaction produces 5-deazariboflavin as an offshoot product. The molecule has been shown to be photolabile, so it must be stored in dark containers under nitrogen gas.
