1-Cyclopropyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-imidazo[4,5-c]pyridin-2-one is a benzimidazole compound that inhibits the respiratory syncytial virus. The mechanism of action is not known, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit viral DNA synthesis and transcription. It has been shown to have antiviral activity in a number of in vitro and in vivo studies. This drug also has been shown to reduce the incidence of lower respiratory tract disease in infants with bronchiolitis or pneumonia who are at risk for developing respiratory syncytial virus infection.
