1-(2-Chloroethyl)pyrrolidine (1-CEP) is a piperidine derivative that is used to treat male infertility and autoimmune diseases. It inhibits the production of prostaglandins, which are involved in inflammatory reactions. 1-CEP has been shown to have anticancer properties, but it does not produce any adverse effects on fertility or sperm production. 1-CEP binds to and activates the thrombin receptor, which causes an increase in calcium levels in cells by blocking phosphodiesterase activity. This leads to an increase in synthesis of messenger RNA and protein, causing cell death.
