Copper (II) carbonate basic is a supplement that is used to potentiate the effects of ferrite and other supplements. It is also used as a nutritional supplement in humans. The bioavailability of copper (II) carbonate basic has been studied for its effects on cancer, as well as for its antimicrobial activity. This agent has shown high resistance to bactericidal agents, and has been shown to be bacteriostatic against Escherichia coli and Bacillus cereus when tested with a gel permeation chromatography method. Copper (II) carbonate basic can be prepared by heating copper oxide with sodium carbonate at high temperatures, forming an amorphous black powder that is insoluble in water or acids. It has a particle size of approximately 2 microns, and a morphology of irregular granules with an average size range between 1-2 microns.
