5-(4-Chlorophenyl)-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine is an acid salt of a palladium sulfonic acid. It is soluble in water and has a polymorphic crystalline form. 5-(4-Chlorophenyl)-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridine was used as a catalyst for the halogenation of methane to produce chloromethanes and trifluoromethanes. The compound was also used as a solid dispersant to minimize the sequences in polymers that are insoluble in organic solvents. This compound can be obtained by reacting phenylmagnesium bromide with pyrrole.
