2-Chloroquinoline-4-carboxylic acid is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of quinoline derivatives. It has been shown to be a human pathogen that inhibits the growth of the virus. This molecule is also an inhibitor of HIV replication in vitro and in vivo, with IC50 values ranging from 0.1 to 1 μM. 2-Chloroquinoline-4-carboxylic acid binds selectively as an intramolecular hydrogen bond donor to the phosphate backbone of viral dna, which leads to death. The compound reacts with sodium sulfide and formamide or sulfide ions in solution to form a reactive intermediate that can react with nitrite ions to generate toxic hydrogen sulfide gas.
