5-Cyclohexadecen-1-One is a metabolite of cyclohexanone and 5-cyclohexadecanone. It is produced by the enzyme 5-lipoxygenase, which catalyzes the conversion of arachidonic acid to leukotrienes. 5-Cyclohexadecen-1-One has been shown to be a major component of the oxidative metabolism of cyclohexanone in mammalian cells, as well as in environmental samples. The molecular modeling studies on this compound have revealed that it is hydrophobic and can react with chlorine atoms in Grignard reagents. In skin care products, 5-cyclohexadecen-1-one has been shown to be an effective antioxidant against butyric acid and unsaturated ketones. It also reacts with hydrochloric acid to form alkanal. The reaction time for this process is about 10 minutes at room temperature.
