Chloromethyl isobutyrate (CMIB) is a reactive intermediate used in the production of acyclic nucleoside phosphonates. It has been shown to have significant antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and some Gram-negative bacteria. CMIB has been shown to be efficacious for the treatment of bowel diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, and Crohn's disease. This drug is administered orally and it is metabolized via chemoenzymatic reactions in humans. The pharmacokinetic properties of CMIB are similar to those of other drugs that target the P2Y12 receptor.
