Description

5-Cyano-L-tryptophan is a dipolar molecule with a tautomeric equilibrium between the two forms of 5-cyano-L-tryptophan and 5,6-dihydroxyindole. The compound has a cyclic structure and is used as a probe for the study of protein secondary structure, as well as for the analysis of DNA sequence. In addition, it can be used to track proteins in living cells by labeling them with fluorescent dye. 5-Cyano-L-tryptophan is an experimental, high yield synthesis that can be extracted from tryptophan.
