This compound can be synthesized by reacting sodium hydroxide solution with 1,2-dichloropropane. The resulting product can be purified by distillation or extraction with diethylether. 10-Chloro-1-decanol is also used in the production of sodium hypochlorite, which is an oxidizing agent used for bleaching and disinfecting purposes.
