Product Information

Name:
5-Chloro-2-(3H)-benzofuranone
Synonyms:
  • 1(3H)-isobenzofuranone, 5-chloro-
Description:

5-Chloro-2-(3H)-benzofuranone (CBT) is a decarboxylated product of 5-hydroxytryptophan. It is an analog of serotonin and has been shown to be an inhibitor of the reuptake of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine in rat brain synaptosomes. The synthesis of CBT can be achieved through a number of steps that include formylation, molecule formation, and thiazolo ring closure. This compound has been shown to have strong affinity for 5-HT1D receptors and may be useful as a formylation inhibitor or a reuptake inhibitor.
