Product Information
3-(Chloromethyl)thiophene is a nitrous acid anhydride that is used in organic synthesis. It can be synthesized by reacting thiophene with chloromethane, which is a chlorine-containing compound. This reaction forms the product 3-(chloromethyl)thiophene and hydrogen chloride gas. The kinetic and nucleophilic nature of 3-(chloromethyl)thiophene has been analyzed using isotope effects on its reactivity. Deuterium isotopes have been used to study the effect of halides on the reactivity of 3-(chloromethyl)thiophene, which was found to be less reactive towards chloride than other halides. 3-(Chloromethyl)thiophene also reacts with ligands such as ammonia or amines to form different products.
