1-Chloro-2-propanol is a chlorine compound that has been shown to be an effective antimicrobial agent against typhimurium. It has a high population growth at pH 5, and is active against bacteria that have become resistant to chlorinated compounds. 1-Chloro-2-propanol was found to be nonmutagenic in Sprague Dawley rats in carcinogenesis studies. This chemical reacts with hydrogen chloride and chloride ions to form hydrogen chloride and the reaction product 1,1,1-trichloroethane.
