Product Information
4-Chloro-6-cyano-7-methoxyquinoline (4C7MQ) is a synthetic compound that is used to synthesize other organic compounds. It is hydrolyzed in water by hydrolysis reactions to form 4-chloro-6,7-dimethoxyquinoline and formaldehyde. Hydrolysis of 4C7MQ with sodium hydroxide produces the carboxylic acid 4,6,7-trimethoxycinnamic acid and sodium chloride. Cyclopropylamides are prepared from the reaction of 4C7MQ with ammonia or methylamine in the presence of an acid catalyst.
4C7MQ has been shown to inhibit bacterial growth and regulate the production of proteins in E. coli cells. The mechanism may be due to its ability to bind to DNA and inhibit protein synthesis, which leads to cell death by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division.
