Description:

1-Chloro-2-butene is a hydrochloric acid byproduct of the reaction of alkanoic acid with chlorine. It can be used as a solvent in organic synthesis. 1-Chloro-2-butene is an asymmetric synthesis catalyst for the production of chlorinated alkenes and alkanes. The reaction mechanism begins with the addition of chlorine to the alkene or alkane, followed by a rearrangement to form an alkyl chloride. The chlorine atom then adds to the carbonyl group on the adjacent carbon atom, forming a double bond between them. This addition is followed by elimination of hydrogen chloride from the molecule. Cell culture studies have shown that 1-chloro-2-butene has no adverse effects on cell growth and proliferation, even at high concentrations.
