Cyclohexyl acrylate is a reactive monomer that can be polymerized by free radical addition. It is used in the production of polymers such as poly(cyclohexyl acrylate) and poly(cyclohexyl methacrylate). Cyclohexyl acrylate reacts with hydrochloric acid to form an ester, which reacts with a hydroxyl group to form an alcohol. This reaction mechanism is called an addition-elimination reaction. Cyclohexane ring formation occurs through intramolecular hydrogen transfer, which is catalyzed by the presence of a catalyst such as sodium hydroxide solution. Kinetic data for cyclohexyl acrylate have been measured at different concentrations of hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solution under constant pressure. The activation energies were found to be 27 kJ/mol and 31 kJ/mol, respectively.
