Chloro(dimethylsulfide)gold(I) is a metal carbonyl that is formed from gold and dimethyl sulfide. It has been shown to have anticancer activity in control experiments. Chloro(dimethylsulfide)gold(I) has also been shown to be an efficient catalyst for metathesis reactions, including the coupling of chlorides with copper chloride and palladium complexes.
Chloro(dimethylsulfide)gold(I) reacts with hydroxyl groups to form a tetranuclear complex, which can be used as a homogeneous catalyst for metathesis reactions. This reaction is believed to occur via intramolecular hydrogen transfer from the hydroxyl group to the sulfur atom on the gold complex, forming a chloro-substituted gold complex. The chlorine atom on this complex coordinates to the metal center, while the oxygen atom coordinates to the halogen.
