Product Information

Name:
Calcein blue
Description:

Calcein blue is a fluorescent dye that binds to calcium ions. It is used as an optical sensor in analytical chemistry, specifically for the determination of disulfide bonds and the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Calcein blue has been used as a fluorescent probe to study hydrogen bonding interactions and fluorescence emission. Calcein blue has also been used as a model for choroidal neovascularization, which causes blindness in patients with age-related macular degeneration.

Calcein blue has also been shown to inhibit the growth of osteogenic cells by binding to and inhibiting protein synthesis. This may be due to its ability to bind calcium ions, which are required for bone mineralization. Calcein blue can also inhibit the production of peptide hormones such as thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) and gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH).
