Description

Carbacyclin is a drug that is used to treat leukemia and other blood diseases. It has been shown to inhibit the angiogenic process in vitro by interfering with the interactions between collagen gel and cells. Carbacyclin also inhibits the proliferation of leukemia cells in culture by inhibiting the synthesis of DNA, RNA, and proteins. Carbacyclin appears to act on both cytosolic calcium levels and energy metabolism. The molecular mechanism underlying these effects remains unclear, but it may be due to inhibition of cyclase activity.
