Crotonoyl chloride (CRC) is a synthetic compound that is a reactive hydroxy-substituted carbonyl chloride. CRC has been shown to have anticancer activity and has been used in the synthesis of anti-inflammatory agents. CRC also reacts with divalent hydrocarbons, such as alkynes, to form acyl halides. The mechanism by which CRC exhibits anticancer activity is not well understood; however, it may be due to its ability to induce DNA damage. CRC also has shown to inhibit the inflammatory response in animal models of diseases such as asthma and arthritis.
