Description:

2-Chloro-3-hydroxybenzaldehyde is a biodegradable, fluorescent compound that is used as a reagent in the synthesis of other aromatic compounds. This compound has been shown to be able to form hydrogen bonds with aryl chlorides and can be used in the detection of chlorine. The isomers are optically active, and have different biological properties. 2-Chloro-3-hydroxybenzaldehyde has been found to act as an antimicrobial agent against lettuce bacteria, Pseudomonas syringae, and Escherichia coli. The molecule's chromophore vibrates at about 225cm−1 for ultraviolet light with wavelengths from 200nm to 400nm.
